Early life
Bhumi Pednekar was born in Mumbai on 18th July 1989 to parents Satish Pednekar and Sumitra Pednekar. Her father, Satish Pednekar, was a former home and labour minister of Maharashtra who passed away in 2011. Her family is a multi-cultural one as her father was a Maharashtrian and her mother is a Haryanvi. She has a twin sister named Samiksha Pednekar.
Bhumi did her schooling at Arya Vidya Mandir school, which is located in Juhu, Mumbai. After passing class 12th, she steered towards acting, Communication & Media Arts, and took admission to Whistling Woods International Institute. However, she was expelled from the college later, citing her poor attendance records. After that, she decided to pursue a Bachelor of Commerce (B.com) and enrolled herself in Mumbai University. The actress had a yen for acting since the age of 12 years.
When she turned 18, she came across a vacancy at Yash Raj Films. She excitedly applied for the post, hoping for it to be a pathway for her to enter Bollywood, but was rejected initially. Surprisingly, a month ago, she got a call from Yash Raj films, who offered her a job as an assistant casting director. She merrily joined the studio, cleared all the pending loans, and invested six years of her life pursuing the offered job.
Career
Bhumi was started her career in Bollywood with the movie “Dum Laga Ke Haisha,” opposite Ayushmann Khurana. It was a romantic comedy, and Bhumi had to play an overweight, obese housewife. To be the perfect fit for the role, Bhumi had to gain 25 kilograms of weight deliberately. People loved the plot and the movie’s presentation, and the movie managed to make its place among the hit movies of the year 2015. Bhumi’s performance on the big screen was critically acclaimed. That very year, she also featured in a web series named “Man’s World.”
In the year 2017, Bhumi starred against Akshay Kumar in Shree Narayan Singh produced “Toilet-Ek Prem Katha. The actress had shed all the body fat that she had to gain for Dum Laga Ke Haisha. The actress was looking gorgeous and unrecognizable, citing her appearance in her last film. Toilet- Ek Prem Katha was a blockbuster hit at the box office and was also the most discussed film of 2017, as it spread out a social message in society.
